There’s a burgeoning migrant crisis along the U.S.-Mexico border that began in earnest after President Joe Biden immigration policies his first day in office.
No sooner than Biden put America back on the road back to energy dependence with his cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline — which has since been canceled completely by the founding company after enduring 13 years of regulatory hell in the U.S. — he ditched former President Donald Trump’s border wall construction, enforcement policies, and migrant control agreements with Central America and Mexico.
But human traffickers from Mexico aren’t the only ones profiting from our suddenly porous borders: So, too, are Mexico’s well-armed, dangerous drug cartels, as noted by the FBI director himself, Christopher Wray.
In testimony this week before the House Judiciary Committee, Wray was asked by GOP Rep. Tom McClintock from the sanctuary state of California if his agency was aware of any increased infiltration into the United States by the Mexican cartels in light of, ahem, the current administration’s non-border enforcement policies.
In a word, yup.
“Certainly, we have seen quite a number of such instances, absolutely,” Wray responded to a specific question about whether a higher number of migrants were essentially being trafficked into the U.S. as slaves to the cartels.
Asked if the ‘indebtedness’ of the migrant is repaid via indentured servitude, Wray replied, “In some cases, definitely.”
He added: “We are pursuing a number of human trafficking task forces, as well as working on certain taskforces with DHS [Department of Homeland Security] to try to address that issue. But there’s no question that the cartel activity on the other side of the border is spilling over in all sorts of ways and you just put your finger on one that is extremely concerning.”
One can only be left to wonder what ‘working to try to address’ the issue means in practice, but it doesn’t mean is tighter border security.
Despite the fact that for months now, border agents, local law enforcement officials, and even Democrats from border states have been practically begging the Biden regime to re-implement at least some of Trump’s policies, that hasn’t happened. The door remains wide open; word continues to filter down to the poor in Mexico and Central America that Biden has reconstituted “catch-and-release” and that whoever manages to run, walk, or stumble into our country will be rewarded with permanent residency, thanks to years-long immigration court backlogs and no serious effort on the part of the administration to even make anyone show up.
Some are even counting on, someday, being given ‘amnesty’ and then citizenship, all the while mocking the suckers who come into the U.S. ‘the right way’ — through the front door.
But it’s not just modern-day slavery that is occurring more frequently, thanks to the original party of American slavery. In addition to smuggling humans, the cartels are carting enough fentanyl and other dangerous drugs into the U.S. to kill every one of us.
Wray, meanwhile, seems ‘aware’ of what’s going on. He just doesn’t seem like he’s in much of a position to do anything about it. Not as long as the boss, or his handlers, see no evil.
